Assessment

Formal Assessments in which students participate include:

BRLA

Students in Years 3 and 5 complete the Bishops’ Religious Literacy Assessment. This is a curriculum based assessment which reflects and supports the progressive nature of the K-6 Religious Education Units.

Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLI-L and OLI-N)

The On-Entry program is a point in time assessment, presented as Literacy and Numeracy online interviews, providing teachers with valuable information on student performance.

InitiaLit Screening

InitiaLit is an evidence-based whole-class literacy program which will provide all children with the essential core knowledge and strong foundations to become successful readers and writers.

Early Numeracy Interview (ENI)

The Early Numeracy Interview is an assessment tool consisting of a series of hands-on assessment tasks where students demonstrate mathematical understanding and preferred strategies for solving increasingly complex tasks. This assessment is used by teachers in a one-on-one interview situation to determine students’ existing mathematical knowledge in relation to points of growth. Analysis of the responses provides teachers with valuable information to use when planning to meet student leaning needs.

National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

Since 2008, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) has assessed all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 on the same days using national tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy. For more information please visit the ACARA website.

Pat Maths, Pat R Reading (Years 1 to 6) and Pat R Vocabulary (Years 4 to 6)

Students at St Columba’s complete whole school testing each year using the PAT R test in Reading and Pat Maths to monitor progress and provide teachers with valuable information to enable planning, assessment and evaluation.
