1 to 1 iPad information

BYO iPads and School Mobile Device Management System (Cisco Meraki MDM)

All student BYO iPads must be registered with the school MDM to receive free school apps.

On the device, please visit https://m.meraki.com/?id=085-951-2919 or type tiny.cc/meraki into Safari address.

This management system allow the school to purchase apps in volume, install and remove apps as required by the teacher. Only apps installed by the MDM can be removed.

BYO iPads and Student Apple ID

Students will need an Apple ID to install Apps.

It is a requirement for an Apple ID that a child is to be over 13 years of age, parents will need to create this ID in their name using the student’s school or personal email address. Even if parents have an existing Apple ID, it is highly recommended that students have their own for school use.

The Apple ID does not need to be linked to a credit card. The easiest way to setup a new Apple ID is to open the AppStore on the device and purchase a free app.

Accessing student email using an internet browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari) on any computer or device

  1. On any internet browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari) on any computer or device, visit http://outlook.office365.com
  2. Enter student email address, eg username@stcolumbassp.wa.edu.au
  3. Enter student password
  4. Tap/click “Sign in”

BYO iPads - Setup for 2016 Yr 4 and Yr 5

  1. For new iPads, parent to follow the initial iPad setup process. If you don’t have an Apple ID then skip that step.
  2. Parent to create Apple ID for student (unless an existing parent Apple ID will be used). See above for details. For email verification the student email can be accessed by webmail. See above for details.
  3. Parent to link Apple ID and password to the device (Settings > iTunes & App Store).
  4. Parent to register their device with the school MDM (Cisco Meraki MDM). See above for details.
  5. Student or parent to complete email setup by entering student password (Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > stcolumbassp (this account will appear automatically from the MDM) > username@stcolumbassp.wa.edu.au > enter student password > Done > a green tick should appear against all settings.)
  6. School MDM “Cisco Meraki” sends the student an email invitation to receive apps.
  7. On the device, using the Mail app or webmail, parent to accept invitation from Cisco Meraki by following the link in the email. Apple ID password will be required.
  8. School to assign apps to students.
  9. School MDM will automatically install all school apps. A pop-up will appear on the device to confirm each app installation.

The school setup process will occur in Week 1 or 2 of Term 1.

The school MDM will automatically add several frequently used internet shortcuts to the iPad home screen.

Device breakdown

If your child's device is not working, please inform the teacher. Whilst the device is being repaired, the school may be able to provide a temporary replacement device so that class work isn't disrupted.

Device Charging

Students (with help from parents) must ensure that devices are charged overnight and brought to school with at least 80% charge.
